Libraries are an integral part of any community. A library is a cultural hub, a meeting place, a space to work and play, among other things. OPL's role is pivotal in helping connect our customers to the world at–large, sparking innovation in our community and supporting growth and mental health through access to library resources.

Public funding supports libraries, and your gifts help us flourish. OPL is a registered charity that sustains itself through both public and private funding. Government funding covers our core expenses (i.e. operations, administration, infrastructure and maintenance).

Your gifts make the difference, allow the library to expand its library services and spaces and have the power to enrich, improve and transform lives.

You can contribute an amount that works best for your budget and start, change, or cancel your gift at anytime. Our monthly donation program offers a convenient and affordable way to support OPL. Monthly donations of any size provide a consistent and reliable stream of funding that is essential to the success of the library. Gifts in Celebration and In Memory

Donating to OPL is a wonderful way to pay tribute to a friend, family member, mentor or colleague. Your gift will support programs and services that help enhance the lives of the Oakville community. 

In Celebration

Donate to recognize or celebrate special occasions such as birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, weddings, retirements or other milestones, or to thank someone special. To give a tribute gift, choose the “In honour of” option under the “Dedication Information” section. 

In Memory

OPL gratefully accepts gifts in honour of a loved one. To give a memorial gift online, choose the “In memory of” option under the “Dedication Information” section. If you would like to designate the Library as a charity of choice in honour of a loved one, please contact us.

Legacy Giving and Gifts In a Will

Choosing to leave a gift to OPL in your will provides you an opportunity to make a lasting contribution to your community. It also allows you to create a deeply meaningful legacy to be shared by the people of Oakville for generations to come.

By far the most common form of legacy gifts, you can name Oakville Public Library as a beneficiary in your will. With prior planning, your will can both provide for your loved ones and help the library prosper. Options for a gift in a will (bequest) include leaving a particular sum of money, a specific asset such as property, or a certain percentage of your estate.

Through this program, donors can plan gifts to provide resources that may be deferred — i.e., planned for completion at a future date. Planned giving options include bequests in wills, life insurance policies, real estate, and securities.We recommend speaking with your financial advisor or lawyer to start preparing your will, or to add a gift in your existing will to OPL. To leave a gift to the library, you will need to provide the following information in your will or estate plan:

Donor Story - Hassan Family  

OPL is grateful for the generous legacy gift from the Hassan Family. For the Hassan family, the library was their connection into the Oakville community and a place where the family felt they had a place to come to and feel a sense of belonging. Endowment Fund

Gifts to the Endowment Fund provide capital that generates an ongoing, reliable source of revenue for the Library. The capital is preserved and only the interest earned is used to enhance the Library’s collections, programs and services.  You can give to the OPL Endowment Fund here by choosing Endowment Fund. 

The Library’s Endowment Fund is managed by the Oakville Community Foundation. If you and your family are interested in establishing your own trust fund in support of the Library, the Oakville Community Foundation can help you get started.
